Mohr is most notably known as one of the forces behind the Roth IRA. As the founder of the Savings Coalition of America in Washington, DC, Mohr and her organization were responsible for legislation enabling the creation of the Roth IRA, an account that revolutionized saving for retirement by allowing tax-free withdrawals. Mary L. Mohr is currently the executive director and one of the founders of the Retirement Industry Trust Association (RITA), a professional trade association dedicated to being the leading educator and advocate for the self-directed retirement plan industry. RITA representatives meet regularly with government officials and policymakers to affect change for the industry. At the IRA Institute, RITA’s educational program, Mohr organizes and provides instruction for retirement industry employees, and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences. She also serves as an expert witness in litigation cases affecting the industry.
